I Need A Major Kick Up The A$$!

This is basically an entry from my debt diary but I wanted to make it more public here so I can shame myself back on to the straight and narrow!

Feel free to shout and scream at me and flog me where appropriate! :o

Been doing some sums and May really was a bad month for me! I was overdrawn by £439.17 when I got paid! :o:o:o

This month when all direct debits are out I will be £223.83 overdrawn but this does include £120 for claiming my bank charges back through moneyclaim so without that it would be £103.83 OD!

I've also got petrol to come out of that which will probably be £40 and thats also providing I don't spend anything either which isn't gonna happen so I'm targetting being overdrawn by £200.

I can't have a repeat of last month coz I feel I've really let myself down. It's such a good feeling having money left the before I get paid (only a few quid mind) so I'm determined to get back to that stage again.

Got some bits up on ebay and should they sell that will be £80 minus fees. :T

Anyone got any tips to refocus my efforts? I'm desperate to get back on top so hopefully that will be enough!

Draw out the cash you will need for BARE ESSENTIALS and then cut your switch card up is my advice. Ive been considering doing the same thing myself, as Im gearing up to buy fans, a new fridge, and the other day I was again perusing flights before having a sharp intake of breath. I hovered with the scissors for a moment I must admit. If you NEED your card, it could be with you in a few days if you find you cant cope.

    Might be an idea?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I seem to remember you spent a lot on fishing gear last month - I think you're getting 'needs' mixed up with 'wants'. How about keeping another spending diary with a page for each - BEFORE you spend something enter it into the appropriate column - maybe this will make you think twice???/

Hopefully is just temp blimp, keep up the good work ali x
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

May really was a bad month for me! ....Debt at lightbulb moment (September 2005) - £34,268.00. Debt now (June 2006) - £28,362.38
May may have been a really bad month but the efforts made so far have resulted in great inroads into debt- nearly 6k in about 9 months.

If you're looking for a rebuke you're not going to get one- the above figures (i.e. how much your debt has reduced through your own efforts) should be inspirational enough.

why the question- you have already began to refocus e.g. moving some of debt to 0% until sept 2006; not spending money to watch England play etc.
the only thing I don't understand is why £150 per month 'treat money' - you don't need all of this.

Tip to refocus efforts? I agree with homer. Your figures from sept 05 to now.....

Print them out and stick 'em on the fridge.

Alongside something to do with the World Cup because you need to be at that semi final!!!! ;)

Can you pinpoint where you spent the money? Was it a unexpected bill or impulse purchases? Once you identify that you will know how to rectify the problem and get back on the straight and narrow. :D

Kick, Kick, Kick, does that feel better. Don't be too hard on yourself, putting your head in the sand is worse. At least your not doing that. Keep chipping away, you'll get there in the end. :T
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

I know exactly where the money went. Problem was I knew I was due overtime in this months wages so I spent it recklessly before hand!

It won't be happening again! I promise! :o
  • But if you look at overdraft end of May and target at end of June that is a big improvement - I'd focus on that instead of beating yourself up cause that'll only make you want comfort of some sort and that always means more spending! :T
