FREEVIEW Thomson Products

My North West region has just gone FREEVIEW only.

I have retuned my FREEVIEW Boxes but the 2 from Thomson are putting my regional channels in the 800's and put BBC Wales, ITV-1 Wales and S4C in channel 1 to 4 slots.

I have upgraded my antenna and using the FREEVIEW web site transmitter checker I am pointing at the right transmitter for my area.

Phoning the THOMSON help line provided by the FREEVIEW web site is proving useless as the lines are engaged or cannot be answered "due to technical difficulties". The WEB site is a waste of time.

Does anyone know when THOMSON will be sending an across air software upgrade for the following products?

There's a known problem with some Thomson boxes which causes channels to appear in the 800s after recent retunes. An over-the -air update was transmitted in October which maybe you missed. Best advice is to keep trying to contact Thomson. The 0845 number is the one published on the Freeview site, so should still be current.

If you are on the Winter Hill transmitter and can manually tune your Freeview box:-

Delete all existing channels then manually re-tune to channels 55, 58, 59, 61 & 62.

Do not tune to 54, as that is going to be the HD channel and you will need one of the, soon to be released, HD boxes for that.

The manual re-tune avoids picking up Welsh channels from the Moel-Y-Parc transmitter.

Cheers i8Chain I receive my signal from a sub transmitter to Winter Hill.

it is such a pity that THOMSON cannot be contacted surely FREEVIEW must soon provide the info' in a newsletter.

Neither of my affected boxes has manual tuning options.

I sorted the problem on my Thomson DTR by plugging in a weaker digital indoor antenna, and this did the trick. Then plugged back into my main FREEVIEW roof antenna.

Did not work for my Freguson Freeview box and I await a reply from FREEVIEW or maybe eventually Thomson will pick up the phone.

So the trick is tune using a weaker antenna then re-plugin your main antenna.
