Another AVG Problem

I find this very strange, but it's the only thing I can put it down to. I updated my AVG software to avg_free_stb_en_9_40_free, and my sound and video became jerky. Hard to explain what the audio was like. A bit like someone stuttering, and the video, even on live tv, kept freezing. I uninstalled the software, and went back to AVG 8.5, but unfortunately, the problems still there. I even did a system restore, and that didn't work. Also, my headphones don't seem to work now. I've looked in control panel, and hardware manager, and when I perform the tests on the sound card, it says they are working normally. Can anyone please help. It's driving me mad.

may need to check that your sound card and video/graphic card drivers are up to dateDon't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0

Ok, I checked everything, and I get the message my drivers are up to date. I ended up doing a system restore, and now if I watch tv through TotalMedia 3.5, both audio and video seem ok, but if I play any media files, video is jerky and audio jutters. I don't know what else to do.0

although if Avira haven't fixed the problem with their update servers yet "avast" or "microsoft security essentials" are both good alternatives.
AVG is a pile of junk these days, you'll find many threads on here of people having problems with it and its performance has been awful in independent testing of late (https://www.av-comparatives.com)
....tho be warned 'expresso' might come along and deny all of the above and tell you AVG is still best thing ever :doh:0
