Interleving and my broadband connection

Can someone tell me what % improvement I could expect to my downstream sync rate by turning interleving on please? If anyone knows of a general rule of thumb or a formulae to work it out that would be great.

It's currently off and I sync at 3.5MBits.

I'll probably leave it off because I do online gaming unless it's a huge difference.

Cheers

With interleving your ping will be much higher, but your sync speed will be better as it reduces the amount of errors gained it fixes them. With fastpath you get the faster ping and lower sync but it doesn't fix any errors and if u modify the sync speed on your line it may drop out.

So in theory fastpath is best for gaming as im guessing most game servers kick u if u have a high ping.

Thanks pcombo but that doesn't really answer my question.

I know what interleving is and how it works but I want to predict the likely impact upon my downstream sync rate if I switch it on.

    Thanks.

I think we discussed this before.

There is no general formula and not even any guarantee that it will be faster. The only certainty is that it will increase latency (ping).

My line on ADSL is marginal 8MBps. With interleave on it was stable at 8096 sync (many router/dslam combos will top out at a lower rate of ~ 7616 iirc) but on fastpath I struggled to maintain 7500 and on the BT system a momentary low sync can penalise you for days.

I'm lucky in that now I'm on an LLU ADSL2+ connection and don't have to put up with the expensive, over engineered crud that is the BTw ADSL product.
