Digital meter readings?

Can someone help!
I live in a two bed flat and only use electric (ie no gas....) and I do use econ 7 for storage heaters. I have a rate 1 & 2 digital meter. EDF have carried out a number of metre readings and claim that I am using a large amount of electric (averaging £190 per month) I have taken my own readings for the past 48 hours and the readings are as follows, broken down into two 24 hour readings:
Fri 4th 5pm - Rate 1 = 05510 (day) Rate 2 = 68635 (night)
Sat 5th 5pm - Rate 1 = 05591 Rate 2 = 68651

Sat 5th 5pm - Rate 1 = 05591 Rate 2 = 68651
Sun 6th 5pm - Rate 1 = 05669 Rate 2 = 68672
Am i right in thinking that I am using an average of 98 units a day?!

Yes that is correct a total of 98 a day.

However something is very wrong if you are using storage heaters.

You have used a total of 196kWh with only 37kWh on cheap rate.(so 19% on cheap rate)

Storage heaters and the immersion heater for hot water should be on night rate, so you would expect to see, at this time of the year, 60% -70% or more on rate 2 night.

Either you are reading the meters the wrong way around, or all your heating and hot water is on the day rate.

Or of course the Utility company could have got the meters mixed up and you are paying for your night use at daytime rates and vice versa.

Check it out by seeing which meter is moving during the day

The readings are my issue with EDF. There is a small sticker on the front of the metre which reads Rate 2 - 00:30/06:30, but the rate 2 display is running during the day. Niether of the two engineers sent out over this issue have seemed to pick this up, so EDF are saying that my meter readings are fine.
    what do i do now?

    Yes 98 units is 98kWh.

So from what you say, it seems that EDF have got the meters transposed(not unusual)

So you are using approx 80 night units and 18 day units (but are being charged the opposite)

Being charged correctly depending on your tariff that would be around £4 - a day for night rate 2 ( 80 x 5p?) and £2.50 a day for daytime electricity.(18 x 14p?) That still comes to around £200 a month at this time of year.

Your daytime use(18 units a day) is above average but not excessive.

However your nightime use(80 a day) is extremely high.

I don't know how you have reached your '£190 per month average'(is that for 12 months?) However if they were charging you for 80 day units and 18 night units, that would be around £12 a day - £360 a month.

If you are sure that they are charging you incorrectly then write(not phone) and send it recorded delivery.

Basically. I moved here in May 2006 and EDF suggested I pay £30 per month DD. Unfortunatley my meter is in a shop below me and I rarely get access to the meter, so it took until Dec 08 to get the meter read (by an EDF meter reader). I then received a bill for approx £3400 (haven't got the paperwok to hand sorry) I just added what they say I owe to my payments via DD and then divided that by the months that I have lived here.

You say that 80 units is high, but I have only got 5 storage heaters a fridge and a lamp running at night.

As for the day usage...We are both out at work all day and the emerssion runs for approx 3 hours of an evening..
