Laptop help - £400-£450 budget

I've been on the search for a laptop for weeks now - the budget is £400 - £450. I've been tempted by a Toshiba at nearly £600 but I think I'm getting carried away with extras I don't need. The main functions I need are
13 inch screen (10/11 is far too small and I don't need a 15 inch)
lightweight
would like to be able to play DVD's on it but I guess I could live without this
and I will really only use it in addition to my home pc for surfing the net when I'm in another part of the house (oh needs to be wireless too) and when we are on holiday in US/Canada for 5/6 weeks of the year.
I know everyone has different opinions on what to buy but it's blowing my mind trying to find something so I'm grateful for help.
I will install office on it (I have an old version on a disc which I can use) and may create spreadsheets and word docs.
Will probably also install I tunes on it so I can access my aco!!!! from there (or can I if I have my playlists on my current PC?)
Apologies for thick questions - I'm really not technical and there's no way I want to wander into currys or pc world etc and end up being convinced I need a fancy £600 laptop when a cheaper one would have done me fine for the limited amount of use it will get.
I've looked at ebuyer and laptops direct and seen brands like Lenovo and Acer but really don't know if they are ok so would appreciate help from people who know more than I do.
Thanks
