How do I unplug monitor leads?

Hi after some info/help please:D
My monitor has been playing up for ages - when we turn the PC on it takes an age to get the monitor to work - I have to press the power/on/off switch loads of times until it will stay on. Soon as you leave the PC or log of it goes again.
Checked all the leads all seem ok.
My Dad has brought a new monitor from Argos in the sale and I need to swap the monitors.
The mains lead unplugs easily but the lead that links monitor to PC wont budge when I try to pull it out - friend tells me that you have to unscrew them? I just cant work out how to do this and instructions with the new monitor are very poor.
I am hopeless when it comes to computers - the installing part and setting things up so anyone know how to unscrew these plugs/leads?
Id need very simple instructions or a picture guide!!
If the new monitor wont work the chap at Argos said to pack it back very carefully and return it within 30 days for a refund!
Really hope I can sort this if not guess we are looking for a new computer - have had this old Dell one for 6 years now and Its used by 3 people daily so buying a new one is an option but if I can fix the old one with a £59 monitor I will!
Many thanks in advance.

Ok, all you've got to do is twist the two bits that stick out of the head in an anti-clockwise direction, it should un-screw, and then once the two bits that stick out are loose, pull the cable out.

You can see the two 'sticky-outy' bits in this image (ignore the other end of the cable)The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

2 finger screws either side of the cable on the connector to the pc.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Just to confuse matters........ my really old monitor had a cable that you couldn't remove - it was 'built in'.Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

Thanks Il have a go!!!
I did wonder if it was built in or anything? Its 6 years old a Dell set up we ordered direct off Dell and my cousin fitted it all up for us - he does not live nearby and has 2 kids and a mega hectic managment job so dont want to ask him.
Anyone know if Dell did this in the past? My Dad says he brought it in 2004.
I wish I did not feel so helpless when it comes to computers:o
Might have to try and find someone to come round, we do know someone who has done work for us before but he lives a 50 mile round trip away:rolleyes:Sealed Pot Challenge number 8 Amount declared £365.50.

Ok, just take a step back a minute. Norbertsmum made a very good call - the VGA cable at the monitor end is most likely fixed if it is a CRT of 17" or less.
So why not just disconnect it at the computer end - which will definately not be fixed. You should hopefully have been supplied with a new VGA lead for the new monitor. The only other issue could be VGA or DVI - but that's another problem.0 -

They do seem welded but then Im not that strong when it comes to this type of thing but it wont budge in any way!Sealed Pot Challenge number 8 Amount declared £365.50.

If its a Dell then you will have a 15 pin VGA connector for your monitor, I found a picture of the plug and socket.
Your new monitor should have the same lead. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
No, the blue cable definately unscrews at the two round connectors - -wiggle it from side to side, use a screwdriver if absolutely necessary, and don't forget to unscrew anti-clockwise.0
