Am I Eligble For Any Benefits?

Facts:

-I'm classed as 'self employed'. I work 'for' an internet company responding to customer queries. If there are no queries, I cannot earn.

-I'm over 25.

-I work random hours- one week it may be 10 hours, the next it may be 0- it just depends on how much work is available.

-I earn on average £20 per week (peanuts....I know!), but this can go up slightly or down.

-I have no children and am not married.

I was on JSA but I closed the claim as self-employed people are not entitled to it. Of course, I need to get a better paid job, but I cannot give up this current one as I need the experience and reference.

Can I get any benefit to top up my income at all??

You need to start claiming JSA again, how can you possibly live off that amount of money, perhaps you ought to think about looking for something else.

Do you have savings? I know you are not married but do you live with someone/family? (just wondered how you survive on £20)...how long have you been in this job?
  • I have no savings (well, under £500).

I've been living at home with my parents, so they don't take any rent off me.

I really need to keep the job as I've got absolutely no other work experience (due to being ill after leaving college).
  • Would you be able to claim the income based part of JSA? I work part time and i have to fill in a form with my hours each time i sign on and send my payslips and they assess if im entitled to have my JSA (couple claim though) topped up.

I would have thought you should sign on anyway so thet you are in the system for National Insurance Contributions?
