Quidco & Cookies

I don't fully understand how this process works but have been told to delete cookies before signing up to a new account via quidco if I want it to track.

But do I also need to leave the cookie there for a set period of time to enable it to track i.e. can i delete the cookie to early?
hope this makes sense.

Everytime you start your clicks on a new site you need to delete your cookies otherwise it will simply think you have had your allocation already.

I also do quidco, all you need to do is let the page fully load, go to the next click, let that one fully load and then the next...

Once you have done all clicks and ready to move onto the next site, then you delete the cookies.

Firefox is far easier for this, just go to tools > clear recent history :)

How is this in any way relevant to the opening posters question?

Thanks for the replies - the question was more about the timing than how to delete cookies - I do use CCleaner on a regular basis, but wasn't sure if I could delete a cookie that was required to complete/prove a tracking in the process

OK here's the way it works (I think). Any seller paying cashback through a cashback site or as commission to sites such as confused.com etc. needs to know where their visitor first came from so they know who to pay.

Let's take an example. You see and ad for something or other and visit the website of the seller. You used the advert to link so the website records the fact that you visited via the site carrying the ad in a cookie stored on your machine so that if you revisit and buy during the lifetime of that cookie the site will get their commision. Should you then realise that the seller gives cashback through Quido and follow the Quidco link without deleting the first cookie you will not be getting that cashback - that cookie will be read by the vendor's website and they will know that the commission belongs to the original referrer instead.

The safest and easiest way to be sure that no situation like that can happen is to use a different browser for purchases via Quidco and clear all cookies to start with (I normally use FireFox but use IE to buy through Quidco). Each browser stores its own cookies and FireFox cookies don't get used by IE etc.

You could use your normal browser but then you'd be deleting all your "remember me" login cookies and have the annoyance of having to log back in on umpteen sites or alternately you'd need to hunt down all cookies related to the seller with the danger of missing the crucial one.

It's the cookies before you buy that are important not any cookies after. See the explanation in my previous post.
