Thermostat control/combi boiler
I have a combi boiler. On it two dials. hot water and heating. Also have a thermostat in hall.
A council guy told me that the two dials on the boiler control the heat that goes into the radiotors and the thermostat controls what temp the boiler is to work to.
Is this right?
I always had the two dials on the boiler to full to flood the radiotors with warm water to heat up quicker and in turn save Gas. Yet he said this will not save. Better to have the dials at 3.15 position than 3.30. Alongside thermostat at 21c.
Yet if I put the thermostat at 25c the boiler does not kick in.
This guy has confussed to bits. anybody able to advice here.
Thanks

The room 'stat (the one in the hall) controls the point at which the CH circuit calls for heat: 21C is a pretty typical setting for most people.
One of the boiler controls determines the temp of the hot water leaving the boiler, you don't need to have this on full because your hot water will be far too hot. Half way is a good point to start at, then adjust to the tap temp you require. having these controls full on is just wasting gas.
If the stat does not 'click' when you turn it right up and down then it is faulty and needs replacing. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

If I have it at 21c and the boiler is not working, turning it up to say pass 30c does not make the boiler kick in. Nor any click when turning it up.
Turn it down past 21c and there is a click and then a click when put to 21c.
The council were just out 6 weeks ago to replace the thermostat. As it was not calbriated, thinks the word he used.0 -

Try calibrated. Sounds like the room 'stat is still not working properly, unless the room temp is already at 30C (unlikely), then turning it up that far should trigger the boiler to light. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
If the rads are very hot the boiler may not fire up until they have cooled slightly, however much the room stat is turned up.0
