freestanding dual fuel cooker

Options
Hi,

We are replacing our cooker and want to get a dual fuel freestanding cooker - we had an integrated dual fuel before so no problems installing.

I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a brand. I would normally have a look on the which website, but they seem to have either the gas or electric ovens but not dual fuel.

Any opinions/advice would be gratefully received as I can't seem to find any reviews!

Thanks.

Can only speak from experience but my Britannia has been brilliant and is as good as new 8 years later ( and yes I do cook!)

Well your budget will make a big difference. AEG do a free standing dual fuel cooker which looks pretty good ... but it'll set you back over £900. There's Stoves and Cannon too, with reasonable reputations. I take it you're looking for a 600 wide one?

The better appliance sellers are pretty good at telling you what's what ... they often get contacted by customers who have problems with their appliances, so they know which ones get the least complaints. Bunny Appliances are near me ... they'll give good advice. Not all of them do a big range of free standing cookers, in that size, though.

  • hi fotokat66,

i have recently had the same problem. we have literally just bought a second hand freestanding 600mm duel fulel SMEG cooker of ebay. im renovating our kitchen and wanted something good quality but couldnt afford a good quality builti in unit. we curently have a knackerd old built in (mounted into worktop and housing) electric oven (seals broken and on its way out) and a gas hob (3 out 4 burners work) so thought we would replace the two. even a half decent cheap set from B & Q will set you back £350 or thereabouts and then youve got to have the gas fitted by an installer! nightmare.

so we bought a freestanding gas hob, electric oven cooker for £200 from ebay. like i said i havent installed it yet but ive had a real good look at all the bits and its mint condition. you can still buy them from john lewis at approx £750! fingers crossed it fits and run okay when its installed. i will let you know when its working or if it doesnt!

if you want a bigger one then there are loads on ebay too. just ,ake sure its within collection distance or it could be an expensive trip!

if you want impartial reviews then for all things use www.reevoo.co.uk as its awesome and gives customer scores.

if you want reviews for anything electrical (eg laptops, tellys, mobile phones etc) then use www.trustedreviews.co.uk .

they are by far my favourite review websites and will help you to decide what stuff is right for you. especially good if you buy a new phone every 18 months or so...ive nearly made a few real mistakes in the past till i found these.

hope this helps you decide! good luck

  • over the last 15yrs have had a cannon stoves and now on a AEG.
cannon ok but a pain to clean.lots of crevices etc. stoves poor quality, rails for shelves and grill pan fall out if using the bottom setting.also thermostat packed in after 2 yrs.now on AEG which i like, dont bother going for the one with all the fancy oven settings(we did and dont use them)p.s..aeg make john lewis's laundry appliances, not sure about cookers?

I just love my Rangemaster. How did I cope without 5 rings, a hotplate, two ovens and a separate grill! It was a bargain though from MFI when they closed!

  • Thanks all. I ended up looking on revoo etc. and went into comet to have a look. Ended up getting a Cannon one as seemed to have good reviews (and within my budget). Very pleased as it was for sale on comet website for £720, but ended up paying £480 by searching about on line!
