Toshiba Notebook MB200

Options
My husband purchased for my birthday in August a Toshiba Notebook MB200 from Comet. Since I have had the notebook, it does not appear to be working properly, in that it is supposed to have a battery life of 9 hours once fully charged, but since I have had it, it has never stayed on for that long, and appeared to get progressively worse month on month. As a result, my husband took the notebook back to Comet, who advised him that the notebook would have to be sent off to Toshiba, to establish what the problem was and it would be repaired if a problem was found. We did this, but it took a month to be returned, which I was not happy about, as it meant I did not have a notebook for a whole month, which was very inconvenient. It was returned a month later, and had supposedly been repaired. However, the problem does not seem to have disappeared. It is still just logging itself off, after a very short while. It seems to me that there is obviously a problem with the battery?? I am just looking for advice on what I should do next. If I go back to Comet, they will just send it off for repair again, which I am not happy about. I really want a replacement notebook, or a refund. Can you please advise?
Regards

They would probably send it for repair again.

I would come armed with more information, e.g. how long does the battery last? What are you doing with the notebook (wi-fi, bluetooth and processor-intensive/hard-disk intensive programs will all reduce the battery life). If you have the service report from the last repair, see what they repaired (it's obviously not the cause).

I would also check to see what the battery status shows on the taskbar (is it charging? When it's fully charged, how long does it say it has to run?). Low battery life could be caused by numerous reasons, it seems last time they got the wrong one.

Ok the first thing to note is it is up to 9 hours life.

This would be on extremely light use. Depending on what you use it for this could be significantly shortened.

Could you confirm what sort of battery life you get out of it and what you use it for? It may not actually be faulty and more you expect too much.

Have you checked what your Power Options settings are? Are you sure it's not just going into hibernation or standby after a set time of inactivity?

And as above, its "up to" 9 hours battery life, this is rarely achievable.

It never will have actually had a 9 hour battery life, and after a few months of use this will further reduce. How much battery life do you actually get?
Most laptop manufacturers only guarentee the batteries for 6 months or so anyway, because they are replaceable.

Also did they specify a procedure for charging the battery before use. I know most manufacturers do. If you just plugged in and went you will never reach maximum battery life. This will also allow for more severe deterioration of battery life... apparently.....
