I recently got the great deal from BT which was a busy thread for a while recently on here. Got an upgrade and also P&P refund. Very happy indeed. However now friend has asked if something can be found to replace her old steam driven PC. She wants the best she can get for about 150.00 including delivery.
Any suggestions much appreciated.

I'll move this thread over to the 'Techie Stuff' board, where it should get more views and responses.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

Well. I bow to your wisdom ( no choice) but I doubt the geeks will be remotely interested in such a low spec request. *sigh*
Found a possible on ebuyer tho.....Living on Earth can be expensive, but it does include an annual free trip around the Sun.0 -
£150 quid computer?
tell your friend to keep her steam driven computer because it will be better than the new one which needs 4 slaves to work round the clock pushing a big wooden reel (like in old mills) or running on treadmills or something.0 -
The one I got through here was only £129.00 and free delivery. retails at cheapest elsewhere 250.00 with delivery. Looks like you missed that thread......Living on Earth can be expensive, but it does include an annual free trip around the Sun.0

assuming enough reusable components from the old PC, eg HD, keyboard, mouse, monitor, case etc you can prob just buy a m/b with inbuilt gfx, cheap generic RAM and a low end CPU for under budget. https://www.overclockers.co.uk is good for components.

Thanks. It's not for me though. I'm fine with what I've got and the beloved offspring is supergeek so add ons upgrades etc no problem for us. Even I can plug in extra memory, better graphics card etc. It's not exactly hard is it?
This is for a friend who just wants to buy a simple machine using her present moniter, keyboard etc and pay my son to set it up for her.
There were some good finds on the old Dell BT thread but it's too long to plough through. I was hoping someone who posted those would see this and answer.
This is really the wrong board but the thread was moved here. We're after a dead simple entry level. She's still on dial up so nothing more than word processing, email and a little web surfing needed.Living on Earth can be expensive, but it does include an annual free trip around the Sun.0 -
Sometimes there are good deals with Dell, the problem is, they are getting fewer

Still worth checking the forums for posts about deals mind you, especially with the summer upon us and peeps saving their money for going on hols there maybe some bargins soonWelcome, rogerramjet.

Check under base units. They come without OS .But you can install your own. I've got 2 Pentium III 1ghz at home bought a bigger hard drive for them and they run fine. You can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.0
