IE won't display pages - help!

Since an automatic update/installation of some security/anti-virus software the other day, we're having problems with the internet. It loads OK, but only a few pages are displayed. For instance, I can get to the MSE website, but when I try things like the self assessment page at the Inland Revenue site (damn tax return!) I get the error 'page cannot be displayed' and it tells me to check the settings. It does that for most webpages. Can anyone pleeeease suggest something that might help, or I have broken the internet? Argh...

Oh - to add - I'm getting the same problem in both Internet Explorer and Firefox. And we're broadband Tiscali types... any help gratefully received!

    Few questions.

    1. Are you on broadband
    2. If so, are you connecting through a USB modem or a router (network cable)
    3. If router, is your computer set up to be static ip address or dynamic (DHCP), and if you dont know the answer to this then its probably the second one.
    4. What isp are you with
    5. What antivirus / firewall you using.

This should be enough information to perform successful diagnosis.
    Ill check back shortly.

    Tom.
  • The problem seems to be fixed! I've also posted this on the other thread (didn't see that when I posted this) - but the Tiscali site recommended clearing out the temp files and cookies, and restarting. I did it and - voila. Very strange! I dunno if it was an issue with secure sites or something, but at least I can do my work again... thanks for the help though - hope I don't have to come back later saying it's busted again..
