Sky phone deal...what's the catch?

Hi,
I've been with Sky for about 18 months, and had the TV and broadband mix. The broadband price was frozen at £10/month and so the overall price was about £28.
Now, the price freeze is coming to an end in Jan and it'll go up £5.
I just phoned Sky and they offered me this deal:
Free line rental.
£5/month - covers ALL landline calls in the UK all day.
Calls to mobiles (-25%).
Plus £5 off Broadband (was frozen at £10/month but is due for increase in Jan)
So that means my entire phone bill for the year will be £60.
It sounds too good to be true...what have I missed?

Not quite " all " landline calls;
Please note:
¹ UK calls are to 01, 02, 03 & 0870 numbers only (excludes calls to Channel Islands, indirect access numbers, dial-up Internet access and 070 numbers). Calls to 0871 numbers cost no more than 10p per minute plus 9p connection fee. Calls to 070 numbers cost no more than 48p per minute, with a maximum connection fee of 50p. Full details of exclusions & tariffs at Sky.com/callpricing. 'Free' and 'unlimited' calls last up to an hour, after which 5.25p per minute rate apply to UK calls and Sky Talk standard international rates apply, or you can hang up and redial as often as you like. Subject to Acceptable Use Policy. See Sky.com/callpricing.0 -
I'd ask for that in writing if I were you. I've heard of offers of a few months free line rental but forever? Never.therevelator wrote: »I just phoned Sky and they offered me this deal:

It sounds too good to be true...what have I missed?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Could I ask who you phoned to get this deal? I've read about the free line rental for a year. Im just off the phone with Sky and the woman said I could have the unlimited BB for £10 a month and Sky Talk FreeTime for free. She tried selling me the £5 a month phone package but my mobile has free minutes for any daytime use.
It's the line rental Im interested in. She offered me 3 months free then £11 a month. I mentioned that people had got 12 months free but she said she knew nothing about that.
I've been with Sky for over 4 years now and on the top TV package and multiroom the whole time. I upgraded to HD a year ago.
Might emailing the support centre be better as Im sure the call centre workers would have a script they have to stick to? Even mention that Virgin had been round offering me a good deal? (This is true, Im always getting leaflets through the door)0 -
Mmm, yes, I imagine it'd only be 12 months - forever seems very unlikely.Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0

Though I would say you could always do the same thing in 12 mnths and try to get the deal again.0

I am with BT at the moment and am out of contract. they have offered me a free hub BB £12.72 incl of vat Line rental £10.50 free evening & w/e calls. I thought this was a good deal.
But I am now reading that Sky offer an even better deal. I have SKY+ HD subs with them, now I can get Sky talk unlimited £5.00 BB £10.00.
I know on first reflection that this is a no brainer but what are the hidden looopholes in both of these contracts?
Also as I am with BT at the moment will I still have to pay them for the LL rental?
Not very savvy on these things.You live..You learn.:)0 -
Hi Renegade
You can also switch line rental to Sky if you want to so you're only paying one company. Line Rental is £11.00 per month. I think they may also offer you some months free line rental. You say you can get BB from Sky for £10, does that include the £5.00 off you get when taking a sky talk package?
Also on Sky website it states the following:
"If you add, or have recently upgraded to Sky Movies, Sky Sports or Sky+HD, you can claim six months free Sky Talk Unlimited"
So if you've just had hd added you should be able to get this aswell!
Ref loopholes in the contracts: Don't know with Bt as i thankfully left them a long time ago. Did they say how long new contract would be?
With sky? None that i'm aware of; you just have to sign for 12 months
Think it's a definite no brainer!MFW 2026 #5007/03/25: Mortgage: £67,000.00
