Tracing a policy

My neighbour's dad died recently and she needs to know if he had life insurance. No paperwork was found but she is sure he had a policy. Is there any way to check? maybe a database held somewhere. The only thing i can think of is writing to every company but there are hundreds of them.

Any life assurance would normally be paid by direct debt. Your neigbour should check all the accounts that their dad had. They should ask for a list of direct debits that have been active in say the last year.

If they find a direct debit, the bank should be able to provide them with a company name and reference, possibly a correspondence address. Their dads solicitor should then write to each possible company, with a copy of the death certificate, asking for details of what policy the direct debit was for.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
