Southern Electric experience???

Has anyone got any experience with the above??? I moved into my new flat a few months ago and presumably they supply the electric as at the end of October they sent me a bill for £150. This works out about £50 a month for 2 bed room flat 2 adults, presumed this was okay even though we have storage heaters and off peak water heating for overnight electric rates.

Thought I would just pay it in November (I get paid 15th every month) but budget did not stretch. Spent several weeks trying to pay £50 online, would never work. THey can't link my online account to my electric account.

Got a reminder in November, stupidly ignored and kept trying online.

Now got letter (yesterday) saying unless I pay full immediately, they will CUT OFF MY ELECTRIC. I think this is the best approach, in all my years with NPower and British Gas all they ever did was threaten Court - I think this threat is more effective!! (I am managing to retain my sense of humour)

There is a number to call if having difficulties so I intend to call them tomorrow and explain we have both started new jobs etc and I will get paid on 15th and should be able to pay at least half, and set up DD for future with extra bit every month to pay off what is left.

However I just wanted to know how quick they are with this threat - I am absolutely terrified the electric is just going to go off any minute. Does anyone else have any experience of this???

Thanks

Although I am not in your position, nor can I advise, I do know what you mean about linking your online account with your account number.

I had to phone up as their internet site would not recognise my account number for gas. Not very good really!

If you see them digging a hole outside your property, be afraid ;)

Seriously though, the only way they could cut off your electric is to gain access to your meter - or to shut the street off!

I think you are safe enough as long as you pay the bill as soon as poss in the week.

Have you actually checked the starting and current meter readings to establish if the bill they have sent you is correct? Have you signed up on an appropriate tariff (presumably Economy 7 in your case)?
