Mac v PC

Morning

I am buying a new computer soon, upgrading from my Toshiba laptop to an all in one unit. Initally I was determined to have a sony Vaio all in one but am now considering a Mac. I have seen one in action and have done loads of research and am very impressed, having found little to worry me so far.

Is there anything that I should wary of? Anything a Mac can't do that a PC can?

I only use my PC for e-mail, surfing, itune, photos etc. I rarely, if ever game on my PC (that's what the PS3 is for!).

Thanks for any advice

Before this turns into a Mac/PC debate and how much Apple 'rip' you off i would suggest that you purchase a Mac, simple reason OSX is a much more stable user friendly operating system. I have used both Windows and OSX and i can pretty much do the same on a Mac as what i did on Windows!

In fact once you are fully accustomed to OSX you will not want to ever go back to Windows, however im sure some of the more technically minded people are able to give better information that i can!

Check with your employers if they have any discounts for purchasing apple products, as i get 17% with my employers!

Before you purchase a mac. Try and find somewhere you can try one out. Not everyone gets on with OSX you may hate it.

A Mac is overkill for these tasks.
But don't let that stop you.

  • go to PCworld - try them both - buy the one you like best

(never thought I'd ever suggest pcworld...but it's a quick exit from the thread)

..or maybe read one of the many mac vs pc debates here and elsewwhere...but please stop reading after the 1st page as everything thereafter is spam

A Mac can do any of that, so its down to personal preference really. You can even run a copy of Windows in a virtual machine if necessary using software like Parallels. If you are unsure, as others have said- see if you can try out a Mac first.
  • i think 96percent of all computers sold are a PC, and most mac users also own a PC. (gadget show on yesterday!). if you are doing professional design work get a mac, for general use a pc is perfect.

Had PC in the past ,bought a mac will never go back!

Try one if you can ,don't think you will be disappointed, everything about the mac is great ( in my opinion).
