Are there any benefits for my son?

My son (21) was unemployed follwing redundacy for six months. He than managed to get a job which is only 12 hours a week at Tesco's. He his hoping that there will be more hours on offer in the future. At present he does not earn enough to pay national insurance contributions. will he be creditted with this or will it go against him in his NI records for the future??
We assume he has to pay for his prescriptions and dentists now that he is employed again, is that the case now he is on such a low income?
He does look for full time work but there is nothing going that he has the qualifications for. Most places ask for previous experience. He has a couple of great references but he never quite gets to the interview stage, nor do any places even reply to applications.
He is not much better off working at Tesco's than he was claiming benefits, taking travel costs etc. into account but obviously he feels better in himself for actually working rather than getting hand outs from the state.

Keep on trucking!

Another option would be for him to look for another part time job to go alongside the work with Tesco; sometimes this is an easier option than finding a single part time job.0

I agree with ONW.
As for prescription costs, (assuming he's not exempt on medical grounds) he can fill in a HC1 form. He can pick this up from his GP or the job centre.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked
