VW service indicator says 'FAIL'.....

Hi.
I've had to borrow a car from a mate for a couple of days because I sold my car yesterday and don't get my new one till Monday.
Anyway it's a VW Passat......it runs fine, but the service indicator says FAIL. I'm not one to be concerned about these things, but I have to drive to Edinburgh this morning (50 miles) so it's playing on my mind a bit. What does it mean?
Can't be good, right?

ring your friend and ask if its normal
vws are rubbish now, so no doubt its about to fail0
