My washer is knackered - any one had same problem

Options
My SERVIS washer has broken. It is a 6kg 1600 spin thing. However it will wash fine but when it comes to the spin it will just kepp trundling round and draining the water. It seems it doesn't seem to have the energy to move a whole lot of wet clothes.

Bloke has just told me it could be one of the boards - any one had any experience of this problem and what was the outcome.

I would guess that it is 'trundling round and draining the water' but not actually removing enough water for the low water level sensor to allow it to go into spin mode. Check that the water is actually being pumped out as it could just be a blockage either in the machine, outlet pipe or drain pipe.

check the filter in the front bottom left corner (pudh the door inwards and it will pop out a little, then unscrew the filter, clean and try a spin.

if this doesnt resolve the issue but more water is removed take any cloths out the machien set it to program 1 and turn the temp up to 90 degress dont add any detergant, let it run through this program and then turn temp back down to 40 and run a normal program 4.
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

Are you saying that it is not spinning and only draining?

If its not draining properly then the above advice should suffice.

If its not spinning I would look at the brushes on the motor, my washers usually worked intermittantly prior to the brushes going (drum half spun or as you say didnt have the energy too full spin). Last set of brushes I fitted were about £25 for the brushes. About an hours work depending on the machine.

Ours was not getting to the spin and it was because the hose going to ubend under the sink was gucked up with guck.I undid the sink end of the hose and hooked out the guck and caught the water. It hasnt had that problem again for a while

3 things it could be in my experience. The motor brushes are a good bet. Also most washing machines have a small bore plastic pipe that runs from the bootom of the drum to a pressure sensor mounted on the the frame just below the top cover. The purpose of this arangement is to sense when the machine is full of water, and disable the spin function. This pipe can get blocked with washing powder, etc., where it enters the drum. If this happens then the machine thinks it is full of water and so will not spin. Detatching the pipe from the sensor will prove the point, but make sure the machine is powered off at the wall before going inside, and also that there is no water in the drum before it starts to spin. The third possibility is the control board. This is the most expensive, and in my experience the least likely. Having said this, when they are at fault, it is often just a solder joint gone dry.

    Hope this helps!

This has just happened to mine too. It was the motor and the brushes. I called a man from the Yellow Pages and he charged me £38 to fix it which took about 1 hour.

Man came out and took washer to bits and it was the most expensive option - the control board is on it's way out. There was a dry bit of solder which the man fixed and now, for the moment it is working. There is also a copper coil on the board and that is melting the plastic houseing it stands on (slowly - i could see the melted plastic). Quote for new board was £160 + VAT + fitting. I said don't bother and we left it at that. He only charged me £30 for fixing it in about 1 hour.

Lesson learnt though is that a 1400 spin washing machine would be adequate for anyone (ours is 1500) and anything over this then the boards start to be more expensive. The better makes are Bosche and Whirlpool but even these are susseptable to breakdowns.
