WHSmith itunes giftcard

I bought a £15 Itunes giftcard from WHSmith retail shop. The number that you scratch off does not work (I bought two at the same time - one works fine so I know I'm not doing anything wrong in itunes). My credit card has been debited by £30, and I have receipts for the whole transaction and for both cards.
Went back to WHSmith to try and get it sorted and they have washed their hands of the whole thing saying (and I quote verbatim) "This is not our problem". No apology, help, or anything.
Could anyone advise me on what to do next? The Apple website does not offer any suggestions that are relevant as far as I can see.
Thank you in advance/.

I'm sure there's somewhere on iTunes help that could help. Otherwise, try a different branch of whs? You might get someone helpful elsewhere.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

I remember someone saying this happened and the store hadn't activated them?0

I had it recently where Clintons hadn't activated them, and on one of them some of the numbers rubbed off the scratch panel but Clintons replaced both of them and made sure they were activated.
When I contacted Apple in the first place to find out what I could do, they replied saying that if I emailed them a scanned copy of the receipt from where I purchased them from then they would activate them for me once I had proved that I had actually bought them and not just picked them up and walked out with them.
They are very helpful at Apple and I got a quick reply from them when I sent them my query. If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00 -
Just wondering if you had managed to sort the activation problem out.If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00

I bought some in Clinton Cards and was explicitly told to keep the receipts until after I had activated the cards in case of problems.0
