swinton insurance- anything good to say..

about them? No i thought not. i was so pleased that they wrote to tell me that they were going to take the outstanding 135 pounds out my account(in the nxt 7 days) after a 53 pound car insur policy soon turned into a 9o+ a month policy. i paid 8 0ut of the 10 payments, but i had to cancel because i could not keep up the payments, forgot to mention the extra 35 pound i also get from bank charges(thats another story). The extra charges of 17 pound to the local branch for defaulting (hope you all treat yourself to a cake- on me each month ]the 17 pound to head office{couldnt have you missing out on a cream bun, would be uproar equal opps ) and the 17 added to my next months bill. Of course totally my fault for not understanding the policy and reading it properly as it is written so clearly:rolleyes:. I just was in a battle of catch up, so they cancelled policy - at a guess i would say i have lost my no claims for the year. any advice anyone?maybe a new web site on how to throw money away:rotfl:

Advice? Read contracts, don't sign if you can't understand them, and pay as agreed.
  • I got £40 qudco and £40 cash back from them.Very pleased with them.
  • Been with them for years now - always among the most competitive,& there's a local branch in my nearby town; they rang me up when I hadn't renewed (I had overlooked it due to oh's cancer treatment) discussed a range of deals/options - and I'm happy with the deal I got. Claimed once, years ago - absolutely excellent - no problems and all went through quickly and easily. We use them for house/bulidings contents. For car-related stuff, we stick to NFU, who are similarly high quality and were fantastic when I had a prang last year.

So no, no worries at all. Read the contract, check its giving you what you want at a price you can afford. Pay the bills. Problem solved.
Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!
  • thankyou for comments- the main reason i went with swinton it was one of the lowest quotes, but the time needed to read the contract in full that is written in that plain english easy reading way then maybe i misunderstood clause 3 section 5 part a d e.
If i am not mistaken this is money saving expert site not pay all bills and you will save money by not paying charges. This is just another company using the word admin or default charges to make more money out of you. So it costs 17.00 for the staff at the branch to take a late payment another 17.00 for them to except a payment and another 17.00 added on next month dd - and then another 35.00 from the bank for fees(just cause they can).
I wonder why i cant afford to pay bills.
To be told that in the next 7 days that they are going to access my bank account and take 135.00 - to leave me no money for food or heating with a child. Its my bank account, and unless i say they can they cant. and i wont allow them.
Maybe some may just except these days its what happens when you miss a payment unjust fees cause they said so or its written down in the contracts, but in my eyes what they are charging isnt a fee- its as much as the original policy nearly.

you have just stated the obvious,
yes it is a 'money saving site' and if you pay things on time it WILL save you money

and yes swinton are in business to make money not to subsidise those in hard times

Sorry for the trouble you are in. A calm request from you for cancellation of the costs will work better than a shouting match.
Unfortunately this highlights the problem of "cheap" insurance. Full of hidden costs and diabolical when you actually try to claim.

I have just sold a vehicle that was insured through Swinton. I had nearly four months remaining on the policy (paid in full at the start) when I cancelled it, and they sent me the princely sum of £2.70! I couldn't be bothered arguing - I guess it was in the T & C's that you are entitled to sod all rebate. However, I couldn't fault them when I made a claim, so quite happy with them on balance.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

swinton are a broker so will charge all sorts of fees when you cancel/change cars etc

the only good thing i can say is that the payments were 12 equal ones for me ie no huge deposit to pull out.. however now with a car club insurer

I got a quote from gocompare and swinton came second. . i called them direct and they gave me a quote which was some 180 quid cheaper than from go compare- how , i dont know.? but i paid straight away
then they realised i got them through go compare and decided to offer the first higher price... i refused and got my money back and wasnt up to any hagling or discusion with them and just asked for my money back.
I did laugh to the representative when he said their quote was the best in the market and hang up the phone... they rang me many times but by the time i d paid direct line some 80 quid cheaper and better cover.
