Buying my first house...need furnishings, but were to buy?

I'm buying my first house soon and have no furnishings, so I'm starting from scratch.

I'll be needing these main things first - a leather 3 seater, and 2 seater. A double bed, and single, wardrobes.
I can source the electrical items myself, but was wondering where is the best place to buy the items above. I thinking of spending around £900-1000 on the couches, about £600 on the beds and about £300 on 2 wardrobes...

Here are some pics of a house I viewed recently...

PS, we have same wardrobe in the master bedroom and it's pretty good for the price by all accounts :)

Spooky, so have we! Well are waiting on the bed, but very pleased with sofasofa service and seem very good quality for the money :) When we visited warren evans the beds seemed so solid and well built-can't wait for it to arrive!

I will also say though-was the £600 for both beds? When I first bought furniture I got a Silentnight divan for £500 ex display (RRP was supposedly £1000), its now being demoted to the spare room as it's not a great bed. I would reckon on making sure you get a good bed for yourself so you don't have to change it 3 years down the line :(

ahh, nice! yes for the price the sofa bed and chairs are excellent. We were lucky as the showroom is just up the road for us!

Warren Evans was more of a gamble but really really happy with the quality, sturdiness and mattress!
  • Take accurate measurements of your own house to ensure that you can get large items of furniture in through doors, hallway and up the stairs etc.

Ikea wardrobes (PAX system especially) are really good value for money, strong and you can add when/if you need to, whatever you do don't be tempted by the tat from Argos.

Beds wise, you are best looking around at some of the smaller retailers, I'm pretty certain there are 2 or 3 by Taskers off Long Lane/Hartleys Village way, Aintree.
We bought a mattress from the bed centre Wilson Rd, Huyton - good showroom, reasonable prices, delivered 3days after ordering. There are also a couple of bed shops on London Rd in town as well.

As for sofas, we bought from scs and we've been very happy, though we did spend near £1800:eek: - scs (along with DFS, CSL seem to have very mixed reviews though) - very much the hard sell when you are in there. When ours need replacing I'll be looking at sofa sofa who seem to have good reviews and good prices.

Do you need new things? You can ask around for people to give you stuff and second hand shops or the clearance ones are very good value. Freegle/freecycle is also a good place for common things.

We have lots of second hand bits that are being replaced by permanent things as we get the idea of how we like the whole finish to be.
  • Dwells pretty good and not badly priced.

Not sure about the other items, but stay well away from DFS for the sofas.

As for the beds, don't go anywhere near the big chain stores, and avoid the big brand names. You are far better going for smaller independent manufacturers, as many still make them by hand. Buy on line, but make sure the seller gives a satisfaction guarantee, as it will be in their interest to make sure you make the right choice the first time.

Shop around. Think local not chains.
If you find the right sort of shop they might do a good deal if you buy more than one thing from them. Always worth asking.
