My dentist told me to use the Corsodyl gel for a gum infection. He actually said not to use the mouth wash because it can stain your teeth?

Pronamel is on offer in Tescos atm, not sure what the offer is, but it is on offer. I'm also not 100% if its both varieities or just the whitening version which only appears in the larger stores.

Also worth checking online to see if any stores have 3-4-2 offers on dental care at the moment.

Thanks guys! And isn't it funny how advice varies from one dentist to another, hethmar?

Corsodyl has a warning to say that it will stain your teeth, but that brushing will remove the staining as it is only temporary.

Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.

My dentist has recommended that I use Sensodyne ProEnamel and Corsodyl Daily

Corsodyl Daily is about 50% more expensive than the normal Corsodyl. My dentist has told me that Corsodyl Daily is simply normal Corsodyl watered down. Therefore to save a bit of money buy normal Corsodyl and mix it with water.

Interesting...I'll have a look on the label and try it out. Thanks!

Bear in mind this was advice given to two completely different people!!!!!

Corsodyl DOES stain the teeth - but for one person, this might be acceptable, as the problem that needs sorting is bigger than a bit of staining that can easily be polished off. The second person might have perfectly good gums, but has just decided to buy and use it because of the marketing he/she has seen. For that person, there is no point getting stained teeth, as things are perfectly OK without it!

The advice given is patient specific. That's why swapping what your dentist recommends for you on an internet chat-board is useless at best, and potentially harmful at worst!
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
  • For your info. Look for the active ingredient chlorhexidine.

Corsodyl mouthwash (or Gel etc) contains the active ingredient chlorhexidine, which is an antiseptic and disinfectant agent. (NB. Chlorhexidine mouthwash is also available without a brand name, ie as the generic medicine.)

If you either get free prescriptions or have a prepayment card ask your dentist to prescribe it.
Mine does this for the high fluoride toothpaste that he says I need to use.
