Hi,

Im searching for a 16gb Micro SDHC to go into my Storm phone.

General opinion is the Sandisk is the best for read speed ? I want to put music on it so read speed is important, cheaper cards appear available but im reading they stutter with music play back, is this right ?

Cheapest ive found a Sandisk one at is £39.99 at play or £33 at amazon (but i've never used amazon- anyone got it cheaper ?

Music isn't a high transfer rate use of a memory card. MP3 as an example is typically encoded at upto 320kbps(kilo bits per second). The single read speed of SD memory is 115KBps (Kilo Bytes per second) (115 x 8 bits= 920kbps) so not an issue.
I would be more inclined to think the Storm has issues with the capacity, is it actually listed as supporting 16GB?

16GB for music?

An hour of MP3s uses ~ 100MB so 16GB is ~ 160 hours of music. Do you really need a 16GB card - that's more music than any normal person would listen to in a month with no repeats.

16gb is a lot for music i know and i doubt i will use it for music alone but i will have pictures on it too etc and other files along with backups of some other important files so 16gb is the safe option 8gb is going to be too small.

Blackberry Storm 2 can handle up to 32gb memory cards but these aren't available yet and at the price there going for i wont be getting one either...

Checked 7 day - thats for a standard card not the micro one and they dont do the Sandisk 16gb card.

I did a little digging but not too much. The storm seems to have a few issues software wise. Even though theoretically it can handle 32GB it still might have issues firmware wise understanding them hence the 16GB issues you found.

Fair enough but your original post said music which is why I questioned the size.

Now I'm questioning the wisdom of carrying backups of important files on a mobile phone which may get knicked or lost - make sure those backups are encrypted.

The other thing to consider is the transfer rate on a mobile phone - I'd test that using whatever card I had already. Moving 16GB isn't going to be rapid.

Top size cards always come at a premium price.

The backups aren't anything personal in a sense that you could do nothing with the info, it's backups of information for me etc.

Just discovered 8gb Sandisk cards are only £10!

Like I said the high capacity cards come at a premium.

The fastest cards (I think) are class 6 which means 6MB/s and they tend to be fairly expensive. The only time you are likely to need that sort of speed would be for fast capture of a string of hi-def photos or some high speed video.
