At the risk of appearing thick, how do I save it? I don't see that option

When you click on the download link you should be given the option to "open" file or "save it" in a pop up

Does that with Firefox and IE anyway
We all evolve - get on with it

I was using Chrome, but I've done it in Firefox, sent it to the desktop, double clicked it and it still opened up in notepad!

You are saving it as a .txt file. When you are about to save it, choose All Files, not .txt files.

No offence taken. But do you really think that I would sully my good name by posting malware? :)

As I said, not you specifically, but as a general policy would you run a batch file on your pc from an internet forum. Anyone could register with a name similar to yours, blind link, and .......

I have followed links from here, they have been very helpful, but I would google them, virus scan them, then if I was happy, run them.

Use IE or Opera if you aren't getting the option to "save as".

I bought it from PC World.

Donnie, how do I run that batch file?

Quick point - was it on the computer when you got it from PC World, or was it a copy you bought seperately? If it's the former, then it's probably only a trial hence the reason for the non-genuine messages. If it's the latter, well, I would say to contact Microsoft, but like most big corporations, I suspect they'd try and force you to buy another copy.
