Malaysia Airlines

I am thinking of using Malaysia Airlines to fly to Australia later this year and was wondering whether they were a good airline to fly with or not? I am particularly interested in the in-flight entertainment system (it is a realllly long flight after all) do they do video on demand for example?

We flew to Kuala Lumpur with them in March, in economy class and it was fine. Flights were on time (actually landing early on our return) and seats were comfortable. There was a good choice of movies, screened at set times, but if you start half-way through a film, there's chance to watch it again on a long flight.
They were constantly bringing drinks of juice and water through the cabin, and tea, coffee, wine and beer were served with meals as well. A friend flew with them a few weeks later and was cross that the drinks were served directly into glasses from big bottles/cartons rather than little cans and bottles being given to passengers. That didn't bother us at all -much more environmentally friendly to do without all that waste packaging, but our friends like to cram their bags with drinks for later!!
Cabin staff were friendly and helpful, and I believe there are also snacks (sandwiches) constantly available on request if you happen to be asleep during meal time, or just extra hungry!
Food was a mixture of asian and western, and there was some choice - of course whether they have all 3 options left when its your turn to be served depends on where you sit, and where they start serving.0 -
Great airline, I've flown to KL twice with them and once from KL to Cairns.
The UK-Kl flight was a 747 which had seat-back screens. Not video-on-demand, but several movies running simultaneously, and a few Tv shows, and some kind of Nintendo system with a bunch of games you controlled using the handset.
Seats are comfy, leg-room not bad (they are top of the charts for that) and I could get fairly comfy (I'm 6'2).
The KL-Cairns leg was a smaller aircraft with no seat-back screen, but it was a much shorter hop. I don't know if they even do that route anymore, so I'm guessing you are flying straight to Syndey with a stop in KL or Singapore?
They are a superb airline and I'd always use them out of choice.0 -
I've flown Business Class (Golden.....) to KL and return and was impressed with the set up. Great entertainment, superb food, continous drinks, friendly staff. The Lounge in KL was superb as well.0

Flew Manchester to KL then KL to Auckland with them in February this year. Was a really good flight. Cabin staff really pleasant and friendly. Food pretty good. On Manchester to KL we had the movies showing at set times but on KL to Auckland we had movies on demand, think they made a mistake as thats only supposed to be available if your flying club class and we flew economy.
I would definitely choose them again, although unfortunately they seem to have stopped the flights from Manchester.Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you0 -
Have a look here. Most comments OK but a few people with (minor) niggles.

odd that some people didn't get movies on demand...
i flew a couple of weeks ago london-kl and the entertainment was fantastic - movies and tv shows on demand, countless games, music channels, all sorts of stuff for all ages.
great service also made the flight painless.
veggie food not so good however!!!0
