Cat Deterrent

Hi All.
Next door neighbours have two very nice cats. Their garden is a bit of a jungle and largely uncultivated. I like to potter in the garden and I have beds and borders. However, every time I turn over a bit of soil, I may as well put a sign up "new toilet open".
I have tried the powder stuff, but it doesn't last long. Other than buying a dog. does anybody know if an effective deterrent for cats? Any advice would be appreciated.

Twigs spread across the newly dug toilet patch...or threads criss crossed over it raised above ground level( does that make sense? )
At least that's what my neighbours seem to do!!0 -
My nan had this problem and she puts fresh garlic around her lawn area & it seems to work.

I saw this http://www.betterware.co.uk/productdetails.aspx?pid=039586&cid=191&language=en-GB in the betterware catalogue, it's only cheap too. Not sure whether it works though but I guess it's worth a try.0

I have a sonic cat deterrent (brought Robert Dyas £19.99) and aimed it at my veggie bed - nothing dug in there for the last 3 years. If you can get the electric converter as the batteries are not cheap and it also works on teenagers!! my two cant bear the noise and have to switch it off if they are in the garden with their friends but i cant hear it!! (something about as you go past 25 your hearing gets worse!!) I tend to bring it in during the winter and cover the veggie beds but i would recommend it.2010 has got to be better than the last two years!! :rotfl:
