IB50 - Incapacity for Work form

Received 3 letters today from the Benefit Office, one informing me that my weekly Incapacity Benefit is £70 and starts on such-'n-such date, second stating that my Incapacity Benefit is back-dated to such-'n-such date and third, a form (yet another) called "IB50 Incapacity for Work".

As I've been told that my weekly Incapacity Benefit has started AND is being back-dated, why do I have to fill in yet another form? What happens if I don't fill-in this IB50 form (size of a small annual!!!) ........ I've already been told I'm getting Incapacity Benefit, so I must qualify for them to send me the other 2 letters!!!

If I don't fill 'em in what is likely to happen?????:o

With all the form-filling that's had to be done over the past few weeks, the Government don't make it easy for those on the Sick or are claiming benefits!!!
It has taken about 4,500,000,000 (4.5 billion) years for the Earth to form as it is now .........
and it'll only take about another 100 years for mankind to really **** it up!!!!

The IB50 is not really another application it is them getting more information on your medical condition.

Put as much detail as you can onto the IB50.

If you don't complete and return the IB50 by the due date they will simply stop paying you IB.
You do have to be careful when completing the IB 50 to ensure that evidence is provided to enable the IB Decision Maker to see how many of the PCA TEST descriptor statements you meet.
Unless it is unequivocably quite clear that you more than meet the points threshold I think you are best advised to complete the IB50 with one of the downloadable guides from benefitsandwork or get your answers checked at a WELFARE RIGHTS OFFICE
This DWP leaflet A guide to the personal capability assessment sets down the PCA test criteria so make sure particularly if you are expecting to score on MENTAL HEALTH GROUNDS that you understand the criteria and provide in those pages at the end of IB50 sufficient detail relating to the applicable descriptors.

Get some help filling in the IB50 from somewhere like the local Citizens Advice Bureau or Welfare Rights office - even if you think you can manage to do it get some help. I never and regretted it! I hadnt done it right and I was called in for a medical and was refused benefit and had to go through the appeals process and tribunal to get it back!

You need to put as much detail as possible about your condition - dont look on the positive side either - just be really honest about how your condition limits you doing things

Don't want to hijack your thread OP but wondered if you could tell me how long it took for you to get a decision? I initially made contact with the JCPlus on 1/6/06 and took my forms to local JC on 13/6/06. The guy said they would be in the post the next day and said I should hear by middle of next week. Does that sound about right or should I expect a delay?

    thanks

That sounds about right. You will probably get a few different letters fromt the DWP - they dont save money and send things out in the same envelope or realise they dont need to send items!

You will probably get a letter saying that yes you are entitled to it then it will probably be another week or two before you get any money - though it will be backdated to when you wanted it to start.

I know what you mean about getting several different letters but basically saying the same thing. When I was on JSA I got a few letters, in seperate envelopes but all post marked the same day.

    Thanks for the reply hjb123

  • One of the letters/forms received stated that as I had asked for payments to start on 15th May, and my employer had stated that my last day of sick pay was on the 15th May, would I complete a new form to show that the payments were to start on the 16th May not the 15th May  . Why didn't they just make the payments from the 16th May informing that this had been done, and the reason why? It ment that I had to wait longer for my first payment i.e. for their letter to reach me and my reply to reach them!!!!

if you claiming IB having lost a job due to the illness you wont be subject to a IB50 and PCA for 6 months. If you was previously unemployed you have to them straight away or very soon after claim starts.

The 6 months following employment you would need sick notes of your gp tho.
