In answer to some of the specific questions, Rosieben, already thought of that - my dad has sent me money for Christmas and my birthday which is also later this month. That's what paid the remainder of this months bills! Piglet, I'm in deepest darkest rural Shropshire. And nopot2pin, the library van only comes once a fortnight! lol. There is one about 5 miles away but that would mean weighing up the cost of petrol against the need for warmth. Thanks again for all your thoughts, it has cheered me up a little to know that other people care.
Hi bigjon,
Sorry to hear you're having such a rotten time of it at the minuteSounds like you have things pretty sorted for the long term so look forward to the new decade and growing your own veggies
We tried it for the first time this year and really enjoyed it, got quite a lot of veggies too
I'm also in deepest rural Shropshire and am currently unable to drive due to an operation. However, I have been using the Shropshire Link Bus Service which is designed for rural areas. You have to ring the bus line 24 hours before you wish to travel but they will pick you up at your house and take you where you need to go. The county is split into zones and each zone has the bus service on different days (usually market days at the nearest towns). It's £2.50 return, which for me is cheaper than using the car (not that I can at the moment!) but you can also use it for one way trips.
Here's the link to the council website with the number to ring if you want to use it:

Hope this helps a bitGood luck!
Mammy to 2 boys aged 5 and 20 -
My DH has beeen made redundant four times since we got married and I was made redundant the week before our wedding and we had a mortgage round our necks too.
But there is light at the end of the tunnel even if you have to take a really low paid job. We seem to get on better when it is us against the world and rarely argue.
In the meantime have you thought of moving back with your parents until you find your feet?
I know at 40 it would be a loss of some independence but if it saves a bit of money hey ho.
As for your Landlord have you asked if you could do some small jobs around the place in return for a cut in rent it might be beneficial for both of you.
I hope your business takes off and I wish you well. xBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
