If it's a calendar month, by handing your notice in today your last day will be either the 14th or 17th July (the 15th is a Saturday).

I would double-check with your HR manager as to which date they would let you finish - I would assume it would be the 14th as that is the last working day before the 15th July. If your contract states one calendar month then others have been very fortunate to get out after 28days!

Thinking about it - if you gave 4 weeks notice, you'd be finishing on the 13th anyway, so it's only one extra day...

How did you work the calender month is 30 days including weekends. dont know if it makes a difference but we get paid 4 weekly as well not monthly.

thank you by the way the date seemd to work out the same as my four weeks notice so i carnt see what she is being so a**sy about :-)

I would assume a calendar month to mean - today is the 15th so you would finish on the 15th July - as that is a Saturday it would be the previous day which is the 14th July.

If you hand it in today I would expect you would finish on the 14th - either way there is only a day between that and the 4 weeks so I dont see what the HR is so uppity about!

  • The simple answer is - hand in your notice, with a specified leaving date, informing them that you are giving them contractual notice, and intend to leave on that date. Then let them sort out the details.

Provided you've given them about a month (28-31 days including weekends) then there shouldn;t be a problem.

Don't forget you can take any holiday due before leaving, so allowing you to finish a couple of days early to start the new job if you have to - I just did.
