Merino wool bedding

Well I finally got round to ordering my Merino Lambswool underblanket today! Been planning to do so since coming back from holiday in April after going on the blanket trip in Portugal then I saw something similar advertised on Martin's at the www.sleepcheaper.co.uk website for a fraction of the cost but I kept putting it off.
However, now that the colder weather is coming and after jumping round the bed (not as you think) each night - a we have a Tempur mattress and it really does get quite hot in the summer and verrrrry cold in the winter. But having said that I wouldn't change it as once it warms up it is so comfortable and really has helped my rheumatism, I phoned and ordered one for delivery this Thursday.
We will then be away on holiday in Madeira (can't wait) so I will report back once we have had time to test it out. After which time, all being well, we will order either the Overblanket or Quilt. Just hoping we will be able to drag ourselves out of bed for work then, as I am sure it will be so comfortable.
So, if like me you have been on a blanket trip or 2 and haven't yet taken the plunge, watch out for my feedback after Christmas (not back from hols until 19 Dec).
Happy Christmas

Good grief, those underblankets are expensive! John Lewis do a quilted pure wool enclosed in pure cotton mattress cover for far less than half the price - http://www.johnlewis.com/2385/Product.aspx.0

i went on the blanket trip in Lanzarote. waste of a day. Over inflated the benefits and the products date back to the 1970's. i am not sure of the purpose of the post, hardly a grabbit.0

I got a wool filled underblanket/mattress cover, duvet, and pillows a couple of years ago from Dunelm mill. They are brilliant, although I do find I need an extra quilt in the winter, but I am a bit nesh.
The great thing about them is that the night sweats stopped immediately, from day one, and never returned (I am of a certain age)
Some people do say that you should not put a wool underblanket on a memory foam mattress as it stops the body heat from interacting with the memory foam properly. But tbh I haven't noticed any difference - my MF mattress is still just as comfy (I have arthritis and fibro so I'd dump the mattress cover in a shot if there was a problem)I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
Hi
just wanted to say that I bought the underblanket, top blanket and the pillows whilst in spain on the blanket trip!
They have been marvelous. I wouldn't go back to quilts ever again. We have had them for about 8 yrs now. They are cool in summer and lovely and warm in the winter. We have them drycleaned once a year usually in spring so they can have a good airing outside. At other times we just hang them out when dry and windy for refreshing. Yes they were mega expensive at around £8oo for the lot - but the quality is superb and they should last a lifetime and another's lifetime. The only thing we did put was a cotton fitted sheet over the underblanket as we felt it was more hygienic that way. The underblanket is made up of thee merino wool layers and the top blanket has two layers. The pillows are formed from a roll of merino wool which you can shape to the way you like your piloows covered by a wool pillow case which is also covered by the merino wool cover case.
We were told to sleep in the buff with them!
What ever you get - enjoy :rotfl:0 -

Sorry to have to tell you this, but your Tempur mattress needs your body heat to react with it in order for it to mould to your body and give the support it is supposed to.
An under blanket that insulates too well can provent your body heat from reaching the memory foam.0 -
Whilst sorting through my grandparents things after they died, we found a sheeps wool under blanket. This winter my mum finally got round to using it on her bed and she loves it, she suffers badly with the cold and before using this item she regularly had at least 4 layers of duvets/blankets in the winter, now she uses this she just has the usual thick tog duvet, she can't get enough of it.
I've no idea how much this cost as my grandparents had a habit of buying things, never to use them, so it is likely this is 30 years old, but I think it is definitely worth it.0 -

I will let you know if this is true after we have experienced it.

Sorry for the long delay in posting but with Christmas and everything it was a low priority.
Anyway, I am pleased to say after finally getting round to purchasing my under blanket it has been worth every penny and more.
When we got back from our holiday on 19 Dec the weather was getting colderl by the day and to make matters worse our central heating began playing up. I don't know how we would have managed without our new underblanket because as advertised it did wonders for our Tempur mattress despite my concerns after reading Tim's post. So sorry Tim I have to say you were wrong on this occasion, we have the 25cm mattress and it is still as effect with the underblanket on, much to our delight as it can be so cold when you first get into bed but this is a thing of the past now and we don't want to get up in the morning. We struggled before but it is even harder now, LOL.
We didn't buy the PAL one but got it from sleepcheaper at a fraction of the cost but just as effective.
They provide a first class service as when it arrived there was a minor fault, I e-mailed to let them know and followed it up with a phone call. The gentleman who I spoke to was very apologetic and helpful. As we were going away the next day he suggested we might want to contact him on our return and they would send a replacement blanket out and collect the return at the same time. I telephoned them late on Monday afternoon and to my amazement it was delivered the next day together with a gift for the inconvenience of a memory foam pillow, which was unexpected and very generous and more than compensated us for our trouble.
So for anyone in the same boat that we were in go for it you won't be sorry and before you buy one abroad have a look at the sleepcheaper website and you'll be able to purchase a topper too for the same price as PAL's underblanket.
