Insurance for Funeral

Hi there, we are a married couple aged (in January ) 60 and 61. We are retired and receive my husband's Teachers' Pension and from 1st February 2010, my State Pension.

My husband would like us to take out some sort of insurance so that if we die, money will be available straight away for our son so he does not have to worry about funeral expenses.

We do have savings, but I believe these may not be accessible to him straight away.

We have no other personal insurances.

Can anyone help/suggest what we should be looking for? I'll provide any further information if required.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Your other option would be to buy a prepayment funeral plan. (Sorry if you've already considered this.)
  • Hi ONW, yes we are still considering that! That was probably going to be my next question. All very new to us at the moment!

The funeral bill can be paid by the bank from your account even before probate.

This would only cover things that were paid to undertaker.
