Apps for older iPod Touch

I bought my iPod touch some time ago, shortly before they started fitted them with microphones, but I'm not sure which model or firmware it is. Is it possible to use any of the apps they keep advertising on this particular iPod?

Ipod touch doesn't have a microphone other than on the headphones which works with 2nd and 3rd gen touches. So unless you have a 1st gen then you will be limited to apps that don't need a mic or camera or phone functions.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740

Thank you. Yes, I can see there will be major limitations on my choice even if I can do it at all. I don't even know how to go about trying to download one at the moment!0

you can use any app from the app store. one app flagged up that it wasn't compatible with my old 1st gen touch and didn't let me install it.
However, skype installed fine when i tried it but it didnt work due to the 1st gen lacking the extra ring (in the headphone jack) to take a microphone.0
