I know that you say that you are ok Router to PC connection - but have you tried using an ethernet cable to the router to see if you still get the connection problems?
I don't see how the MTU size would help that much as that is really Belkin saying that talk talk is sending oversize packets down the line - (nearly blaming talk talk for this rather than their own router).
Belkin equipment can be bad for losing internet connection - They seem to have a problem when traffic gets heavy - recieving emails or just simple browsing seems to be OK but anthing heavier such as streaming videos or gaming and it cant handle it and it will shut down the connection.
However I have known other things to affect - such as cordless phones in the vicinity.
Sorry to say that I know of a few people who have / or have had this problem with Belkin equipment - including myself which is why I sent mine back and got a different make as a replacement.

  • I have to agree, Belkin products are really bad. Take it back, tell them that it doesnt work and could you swap it for a decent brand.

First thing to try is changing the wireless channel (assuming you are using it wirelessly and not on ethernet)-you don't say.
BTW, the TalkTalk standard MTU is 1432, if you set up using the Connect and Go CD it should have reset the Windows default (1500) to this. 1400 is too low.

    Also worth checking your micro-filters.
Make sure you have one on each of your telecoms devices - don't forget your Sky box if you have one. If you have a spare filter swap the one on the router as a test.

I have no problem with a ethernet cable. It doesnt drop at all.
i got the belkin, because i did have a netgear,(about 3years old)and that kept loosing connection, new firm wear etc, didnt solve it.
    so i'm no better off.

I had a netgear router that did that as well. It was fine if I kept the connection active with a ping script running in the background but sucked I had to do that.
If the new router is doing exactly the same as the old one but different brand, could it be your laptop\PC?

    Hi teenee60,

Just to clear up MTU for TalkTalk should be 1432, if you still experience problems on this we recomend trying 1400.

Can you please connect the router to the test socket if you have an NTE5 style socket or to the main phone socket if you don't. Can you also ensure you are connecting the PC via the Ethernet cable. If you experience drops in this set up could you please let me know what lights go out on the router if any and if you can still access your router settings.

It could also be worth you registering and posting in the connection and stability section at https://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums so we can take a look at your line stats. This should help us to see if you are dropping synch, authentication or if its a wireless problem.

    Cheers

I used to have a netgear router as well and it kept dropping it's connection with my laptop every 5 seconds. I solved the problem by binning it and getting in a belkin one :D
It seems you can't say for sure which brand will work best until you actually try them. I will never use netgear now but networking equipment in general do appear to be a lot more temperamental than other machinery.
