Working TC backdated how far?

Hi
Im getting CTC and CB, used to be on income based JSA but just started self employment.
I phoned up TC helpline to tell them and start a claim for WTC.
They wanted my Unique tax reference number I dont have it.
I have ordered a new one to be sent to me through the post, but its taking ages. Must be the xmas post.
Will they backdate it until I signed off JSA?

i would get back on the phone to them - they can update the change and you will call back with the UTR, if the advisor won't do it speak with a manager.
max backdate is 3months, you wouldn't want to wait just incase your number takes a while.0
