Hi
My nephew has kindly ripped a hole in the black fire proof fabric that is on the gas fire. The part where the flames hit the fire.
Is it likely this bit can be replaced or will it be a new fire?

New fire. I doubt very much whether you could get a replacement part (contact the manufacturer to confirm). Even if you can, You would need to get a gas safe reistered fitter to safely fit it and TBH, It would end up costing you as much as a new fire.

Bad news then but i did suspect as much.
I did wonder if the same material could in some way be placed on top of the damaged one0 -
From your description, I think you would still have a risk of fumes finding their way round and through the damaged part and it's not worth the risk IMO.

If you have Accidental Damage Cover on your Builings Insurance you may well find this is covered and it will only cost you your excess. The insurers will pay for as new fire as well as the cost of the Gas fitter to do the work. Worth calling them.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
