JSA Query

I wondered if anyone could help.
After being told I had a job, this was pulled at the last moment, and my previous employers would not retract my resignation. Therefore I have had to claim JSA (Contrib based).

I first signed on - 26/11/2009 my next signing on date is 10/12/2009, however today on checking my bank account I have been given £18.36. JSA, unfortunately I checked my account late this evening too late to contact the helpline. I know that for the first 3 days of your claim they do not pay, but wondered how on earth they have calculated the figure above and for which time span it is for .. I have no savings or any other income, so I was expecting a little more tham £18.36!!

Can any one shed any light?

Thanks alot, and apologies if this kind of question is not really relevant for this forum.

Regards,

SP007

    £18.36 is two days JSA ... 2/7 x £64.30 = £18.36.

If you sign on a Thursday, that means your benefit week runs Friday to Thursday. You last signed on 26/11/09 which suggests to me these two days represent payment for 25/11/09-26/11/09 ?

The next time you sign on is 10/12/09, you'll be signing for the period 27/11/09-10/12/09 & they'll then pay you 2 weeks @ £64.30 = £128.60.

That's the way I read it anyway.

JSA is paid two weeks behind, sothe 18 quid is for, as tr82 says, the Thursday and Friday. If you were expecting more, you'll need to phone them up and find out

I do it all because I'm scared.
  • Thanks so much - this makes it clear. I wish they would have explained this to me in the letter they sent or at the benefits office. Oh well, luckily I can ask you lot on here!
