Sounds like a woman who had a satnav problem the other day.

The satnav wasn't faulty at all, but she was going to germany and was afraid she'd get in trouble because the satnav could report safety cameras (which is an offense in germany).

So first she ranted that we'd sold her a sat nav which could detect cameras... then she got very cross because HOW DARE it have the ability to when she hadn't bought any camera alerts.

I showed her how to turn the alerts off.

She refused to believe it could be that simple and insisted on speaking to somebody who knew what they were doing...eventually sending for the department manager who knows how to MANAGE things but knows nothing about tech (you should see him trying to plug a usb cable into anything).

He prodded the screen then asked me how to turn them off.

I showed him the process and he followed it, and thusly turned them on...because i'd already turned them off. I pointed this out and the woman basically said "I don't care you're obviously lying but your manager has sorted it out."

I await her trial in germany...

Surely the sat nav will just be working fixed location cameras and the German map pack won't include this info so there would be no point in switching the function off.

Told her that, too, but she wasn't having any of it.

The customer from my original post came in yesterday and asked for me. I went over and she kept me waiting five minutes while chatting to some friends (meaning I was late for my lunch break before we'd even begun...).

She unpackaged the laptop in the office and one of the keys was missing and she kept saying "Well all the keys were there when I put it in my bag, so you must have lost them," despite me not having even touched the computer by that point.

Luckily, as we progressed through the process, she accepted that I couldn't do anything other than send the laptop away for repair, and she is on the list for a loan laptop when one becomes available. Went a lot smoother than I was expecting, thankfully.
  • Thanks for keeping us updated - sounds like you have dealt with the customer from hell and glad to hear it all went quite smoothly. A bit cheeky of her to keep you waiting while she chatted - I assume this was some sort of power trip on her behalf. You obviously rose above it but if it was me, I think I'd "forget" to put her name on that loan list :D
