Hi,
I dont know if anyone can help on this. Its been driving me round the bend. Ive got a Panasonic DMR E55EBS DVD Recorder.( got it for a great price as tipped by this site
). The problem I have is when I record something on a dvd-r disc. It will play on my dvd recorder. But when I try and play it on a panasonic dvd player. It says the disc has not been finalized, and wont play it. The dvd player plays dvd ram discs no problem. its just the dvd-r disc where this message comes up. the dvd player should play these -r disc, as it says in the manuel it does.
So what I really need to know, is how to finalise these dvd-r discs. Im guesisng you must do it on the recorder itself somehow. But I havnt got a clue how, and was wondering if anyone knew?.
Ive emailed panasonic to ask them, but they so far havnt got back to me. And I cant find nothing in the manuel about it.
Thanks if anyone can help
Emma

How do!
My first post, but I'll try to help
One thing which occured to me is have you tried DVD+R? It's generally similiarly priced, but is often more compatible with players.
Also, I don't know if you have one available to you, but it is usually possible to 'finalise' a session using PC software and a DVD writer.
My only other thought is it might be worth trying some other media? Some players can be quite picky.
Hope something I've said helps,

Unfortunately what you said is likely to be of little help as it is DVD-R only. You are correct in that some devices prefer certain brands of media. The more people report on what works then we can all make informed purchases.
Welcome to the forum.

The manual to the E55EBS can be accesed via
here.
This is a scanned in version of a badly photocopied manual, so search options are useless. So much for Painosonic's reproduction quality.
At the bottom of page 35 (Not in Acrobat but written on the bottom of the pages) you will find how to finalise a disk.

If you look at page 40 in the manual supplied with the recorder it tells you how to finalise discs.
From the top of my head I think you can press the function button on the remote and this puts uop a menu page on your TV, one of the options is disc inrformation, select that option using the up/down/left/right arrows and press enter.
Use a similar method to select finalise, then follow the instructions on the screen.
Hope this is helpful

thanks very much for all your help. you have helped me solve the problem at last. ;
is it possible to make copys of dvds, what you record off the tv. ? i have a few football matches what people want copies off. but im not sure if its poss to do0 -
you say you have a panasonic dvd player as well, put the dvd-r(finalized
) in your panasonic player, connect the scart of the player to the input of your E55 recorder, press play on the player, press record on the recorder, et voila!
admittedly you willonly copy in real time so will be a bit painstaking, otherwise get a CP with a dvd writer and you'll be able to bang out copies a lot quicker0
