                    Hi
Im studying Dreamweaver web design but my course does not cover fireworks. This part of the course is covered in 6 months and I do now want to wait that long. I am keen to improve my knowledge of fireworks and or photoshop. Can anyone recommend any websites/books/training providers they feel would be beneficial to me.
Cheers

what course are you doing out of intrest?

fireworks is very.. limited.. no that doesnt say it... fireworks is crap; Macromedia really let themselves down on this, because Dreamweaver and Flash MX 04 and 8 have been great. I have been doing websites for a couple years on the side, and believe me, good sites = Photoshop CS2... if you can afford it

best way ive found with Photoshop is to just play around, but make sure you learn all the tools... i went 3 months when i started without using the Hue/Saturation colourisation tool, would have saved me loads of time lol. Books and stuff are all very well, but ive always found them boring, my personal favourite is doing the tutorials you find by other users on the net.. try tutorial-outpost.com or goodtutorials.com, they have loads of different things and most of the stuff is quick and easy, but gets you aquainted with the different tools.0 -

Fireworks is ok for what it is designed for which is web graphics. Photoshop is a better package but it is OTT for normal webdesign in my opinion.
GIMP is free of charge and is almost as powerful as Photoshop but its downfall is the fact that it doesnt have as many auto functions as photoshop.. you can still get the same finish by using individual tools manually but for beginners having a single button to press is easier. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Fireworks is alright, it's not the best (arguably photoshop cs2 is) but if it's part of your course you can't change that anyway can you.
For what it's worth Adobe/Macromedia offer the lastest version (ver.8) for a free 30 day trial (download HERE) so quite simply get in there and get your hands dirty!
When you're comfortable with fireworks you'll want to give photoshop a go... :rolleyes:0 -
