redundancy and benefits question please.

hi all
a question i need help with any answers are appreciated. thanx in advance

my husband has been made redundant after 11 years at his work place.
we have two children aged 7years and 8months.

i work as a carer 40 hours per week. we also have a house on rent.

just wondering if we are entitiled to anything and is it worth claiming.

He should be entitled to Contribution Based Jobseekers Allowance.
My husband got made redundant earlier in the year and despite the fact I was working and earning a decent wage he still qualified for JSA (C) as he'd been working and making national insurance contributions for years - income is not taken into account. Its only paid for a max of 6 months though, after that if he still hasnt found work he wouldnt qualify for jobseekers allowance (income based) as your earnings would then be taken into consideration and deemed too high. it might also be worth applying for housing and council tax benefit, as you may qualify. all the best!

Check that he is also getting his entitlelement regarding his redundancy.
He should get 11 weeks notice (unless he is contracted for more)
he should also get 11 weeks redundancy pay, with a capped amount of £380
He should also get any accrued holiday pay.

Hopefully he will find a job soon.
