Moving in with the girlfriend

I need some opinions regarding my up and coming move to my girlfriend’s house.

We are moving together after a one year relationship which is very exiting. I was a mature student in the last 3 years and just graduated.

The only debts I have is my student loan which is about £10k and a small overdraft that I try not to use too much.

My girlfriend on the other hand has a mortage + two credit cards.

Now, I stay out of borrowing and only live by my own means which was always my policy in life, so I never had a credit card and I don't really need one, I am happy with my Visa debit card.

We agreed that I will pay 'rent' at list in the first year to cover my side (to the tune of half the monthly mortage payment).

Do you think it is a good idea? I can't think of any other way of sharing finances while we give our self time to get use to living together, and I don't want any debts on top of my Student loan.

My girlfriend seems to like my way of dealing with money and said that once we will have money together (aka joint finances) she don't mind living without unsecured debt.

Is there any good simple plan for sharing finances but not having joint accounts etc’?
Five exclamation marks the sure sign of an insane mind!!!!!

Without a joint account, the best way (i think) is to "sub let".

Basically, you're just a tenant in terms of payment. All the mortage etc comes out of her account, you just give her a lump sum for the "rent" and council tax etc. She would have to declare you living there to the council, as shes problerly paying "single persons tax".

If you were to split up, you wouldnt get a share in the house, unless it was joint funded (not 100%, maybe someone can clear up).

Hope you don't mind me asking, but when you bought the house together did you put down a larger deposit than him and if so does that reflect in the property share that you each own ie a 70/30 share incase you split ?
