Anyone know a free FTP server? My friend and me are trying to do a website. I downloaded Filezilla and FreeFTP but cannot get either to work.

an FTP server is not a website. FTP stands for "File Transfer Protocol". for a website you would need a http server - the most common one which powers a majority of the worlds website is Apache, which is freeLeft to Pay/Originally Owed
MCS (HSBC) £735.48/£1645.48 - Robinson Way (HFC) £1194.83/£1586.83 - Capquest (CitiCard) £0/£1609.18 - Moorcroft (O2) £0/£326.62 - Magistrates Courts £0/£4150 -
As the previous poster said, you want Apache. You should also look at PHP and MySQL ( the MySQL Community Server version ).
The Free Country and its sister site The Site Wizard have some well written guides that may help you get started.0 -
yes you need a http server to serve the files but he might want an ftp server to get the files onto the computer he is hosting from0

The OP needs to be clearer explaining what they are actually doing and trying to achieve.0

We have successfully used Apache (webserver), Filezilla (FTP Server) and PHP at work.
They are reasonably straight forward to setup, and work on Window Server machines (as well as Linux). You can also set up secure sites (https) with these.0
