TV Licence - do we have to pay it?

Options
Hi All,

I couldn't find the right area for this so feel free to move it if necessary.

I've been reading the information on this website which suggest that, with the right information to hand and correct procedures adhered to, we won't have to pay our TV Licence any longer: http://www.tpuc.org/stoppayingtvlicencefees

Can anyone shed any light on this as, like so many, I'd like to save my pennies and not contribute to the BBC's propaganda. :)

Thoughts?

Adam
Thanks,
Adam.

Assuming you have a TV then yes, you have to pay your TV license.

That website is ridiculous. It seems to suggest that as BBC are doing wrong, we have the right to do so to. It's like suggesting that as the local council did something wrong, we no longer need to pay council tax (i wish!!!).

The License fee isn't completely to fund BBC programmes, but to maintain the upkeep of transmitters etc. So if you are receiving the signal, you obviouslly need to pay.

Not if it's just for playing computer games on or watching DVDs/videos.

woops didn't mean to thank you.

If it's capable of receiving then it's pay up. Even with the tuner removed - it's capable of receiving as one could put the tuner back!

And crikey...it's CHEAP! in the grand scheme of things. Internet connection costs more just to log on and complain about it.

No, if all you're doing is playing games and watching DVDs then you can get an exemption by completing a separate form.

This has all be discussed at length at the links posted earlier.

Wow, how many times do people get this totally wrong on this site? From TV licensing themselves

"It makes no difference how you watch TV - whether it's on your laptop, PC .. if you use any device to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV, the law requires you to be covered by a TV Licence.
If you don't use any of these devices to watch or record television programmes at the same time as they're being shown on TV - for example, if you only use your TV to watch DVDs or play video games, ... you don't need a TV Licence."

easy loop hole and easy to show it's only for games when it's not.

Amazing how many people pick up on this time and time again!
People assume because they don't use it for TV then it's ok - it's not.

If it's just a monitor then fine - but it often isn';t It's rubbish that it is NEVER used to watch TV.

TV... nah, I only use it for games..honest guv.

Some people, who are right, know that if they don't use equipment in their home to receive/record TV programmes as they are being broadcast, they do not need a TV licence.

If it is a monitor attached to equpment which could be used to receive TV but is not so used, then it is absolutely possible that it is never ever used for receiving TV programmes for which you need a licence.
