halifax credit card charges pls pls help

just won £661.35 credit card charges from halifax with the help of financial claims uk, but this is where it gets interesting and frustrating. The credit card slipped into the hands of the debt collectors which on this occassion was equidebt limited. I owed £3056 and eventually settled after 18 months or so of paying 77.50 a month for £1381 so in total i paid £2673 back.

As far as i was aware this means the account with halifax was closed and i did not owe them a penny, i today rung halifax to see when i would receive my cheque and was told that it had been added to my credit card balance and i was now £278 in credit!!, they then proceded to tell me that the account has never been closed (made last payment in june 08) and that i owed them £382 of which they have used my credit card charges to pay them with.

I have not had one piece of communication from halifax in over 2 years and now they are telling me i owed them money im gobsmacked, i worked so god damn hard to pay off all my debts and now they wont give me my money.

Equidebt have said that as far as they are concerned the account has been paid in full and settled and the account has been closed.

What do i do to get my money

sorry for the rant

    Hi there

Did they send you a letter prior to this to let you know how they would be refunding you?

Unfortunately this is how they deal with these claims if in arrears, and anything remaining should be refunded directly to you, just as long as it helped to clear any arrears.

I know it can be maddening.

    However, well done anyway.
The one and only "Dizzy Di" :D
  • i cleared the balance and therefore thought i never had any arrears.

Have spoke again to halifax and tey have informed me they are sending mema cheque for the full amount
