Vauxhall Astra problems

Hey all,

Vauxhall Astra 1.6 design hatchback - error code P0115 - Thermostat engine fuel tank

Friend had some work done at a local garage, but when they got the car back the error light was still illuminated. The local garage said they do not have the equipment to reset the lilght and have advised to disconnect the battery for 4 hours and this will extinguish the light. A couple of questions:

1. Is the garage talking bollox about the 4 hour thing?

2. Is there any other way of getting rid of the light ie ignition turns, sticker over the light etc.....

3. If we do disconnect the battery, then we will require the radio code (we don't have one :() Any ideas the best place to get the radio code.

  • Any vauxhall i've known the light (assuming its the engine management light) goes out if the faults fixed.

    Yes it is a you so bluntly put it bollox!! The fault code is stored in the eeprom in the ECU. If you unplug your computer for 4 hours it doesn't start magically deleting data and a modern car ECU is no different.

    Error code P0115 is Engine Coolant Temperature sensor voltage too high. This is most likely the sensor itself and should be only a few pounds from an independent motor factors and should take an amateur only a few minutes to change. Usually when the fault is rectified the light will go out but the fault will still stay in the memory so it would be worth finding an independent garage who have the equipment to clear the fault codes (you shouldnt have to look to far).

    The light should be off if the fault is no longer present, but occasionally it doesn't reset properly. If you disconnect the battery for several hours, the ecu will relearn the car on reconnection, any old codes will be deleted, but if the fault is still there it will be relearnt as well.
    Something like 20 or 24 clean starts will delete the code from memory normally as well.
