Help regarding sanction on my benefits

I have been on incapacity for 3 years as I suffer from depression/ anxiety/ agoraphobia. I am on medication, and under the care of the local mental health team. I was sent a letter in may to attend a work focused interview, due to the nature of my illness I was unable to attend. I sent a letter out explaining my circumstances but received no response or recognition of my letter.

The first I found out about it was when a sanction was placed on my benefits, giving me £40 less each month. When this happened I phoned job centre plus in hastings and was told to write to my local job centre again, and that I would receive all back dated benefits that had been taken once it was resolved, again I received no reply of any sorts. So the money continued to be taken, £40 less each month.

I then had to call my local job centre to find out what was going on, to be told there was no space for comprimise and that I had to attend or my benefits would continue to be less than the amount I should be getting. I then arranged it with them to have a private interview and to be accompanied my a relative due to my illness.

The interview took place, and the sanction has now been lifted, but the job centre are refusing to pay back the money they have taken since may this year. Which is around £250 I am owed. I was told I would receive this money back once the interview had taken place. But now am being told it is policy not to pay this back? Anyone had any experience similar? or any advice? would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
