Gearbox sticking

hi guys, just looking for some advice.

I have a fiat brava sx1.4 and at the moment the gears are really difficult get into 1st and second, someone has told me it may be low on the oil in the gearbox, does this ound right and how can i fix it.

    It could be a few things, yes it my be low oil in the gearbox but it may also be a worn gear linkage, draging clutch or that the gearbox is knackered.
    Fiats aren't reknown for great gearboxes.
    best to take it to a decent local garage (not a chain garage like kwikfit or the like) and get it checked out.

    the 1.4 gearbox is awfull (sorry) its basicly the same as the old punto box and isnt realy up to the job, anyway the gears ar opperated via two cables these can often get water in them and sieze up.
    does it work ok when the engine is off.??
    you should get the oil level looked at anyway.(the filler plug is in the front/middle of the gearbox,12mm allen key)
    the worst it could be is the 1st-2nd gear syncro hub thats worn the teeth out. this could cost upwards of £300.!!

    get a proper mechanic to look at it and have a drive in it NOT a fast fit centre they employ fitters not mechanics.

    quick update, got it booked in garage on monday, no wiser as to what it is but got home last night and a strong smell of burning rubber from under the bonnet. will kepp you updated.

    good news, nothing wrong with gearbox

    bad news, clutched f****d £250 to fix, debt free date back by one month.

    GUTTED!!!!
